In the case of EastBay, Dover, Kohl & Partners has been instrumental in helping to launch our New Urbanism project. In October 2003, the company helped organize a charrette – a new "co-creation" method that makes the local citizenry part of the project planning process.
Dover, Kohl & Partners has found that, properly executed, a charrette can produce a master plan that is more useful, better understood, and more quickly produced than one formed by any other method, which was certainly the case with the EastBay project. By involving people from the local area, Dover, Kohl & Partners helped ensure that plans for the town would be approved more quickly than usual; and EastBay will fit naturally within the area's growth.
